Your website is yours. WEMASY lets you download the files of your published website and a backup of how your site is built, whenever you want. This article lists what you can take with you yourself from the dashboard, and what WEMASY support can do for you.
What you can download yourself
- Your published website as files. A ZIP with the HTML pages, styles and images of your site.
- Any earlier build. Every publish is kept on the Publish page and can be downloaded.
- Your builder setup. A ZIP with your pages, layouts, templates, menus, structures and forms as data files.
Download your published website
- Click the gear icon next to Publish in the top right, or click Publish before your first publish.
- Click Download ZIP at the top of the Publish page.
To download an earlier build, open the Versions tab and click Download version on that build. See WEMASY subdomain and export.
Download a backup of your builder setup
- Click Settings in the top right menu.
- Open the Site Builder tab.
- Under Download project state, click Download.

What works outside WEMASY
The pages, texts, images and styles in the ZIP work on any web hosting. Features that run on WEMASY stay with WEMASY: forms that send submissions, the webshop and checkout, bookings, popups, analytics, site search and redirections. If you host the files somewhere else, those parts stop working there.
What WEMASY support can do for you
- A full export in the open WEMASY format. One ZIP with your whole website, including the webshop, popups, saved blocks and, if you want, form submissions.
- Your site in a git repository. Your website can be moved to WEMASY's own git host or to a repository you own, with its full history.

Your domain
You can move a domain you registered through WEMASY to another registrar with its transfer code. See Domain renewal and transfer.
Tip: download a project state before every big change. You then always have your own copy of how the site was.
Frequently asked questions
Does downloading cost anything?
No. Download ZIP and Download project state are available in the dashboard on every plan.
Will my contact form work if I host the ZIP elsewhere?
No. Form submissions are handled by WEMASY. On other hosting you need another way to receive messages, or you keep your site on WEMASY.
