A site version is a copy of your website that you can change without touching what visitors see. You can work on a new menu, a summer sale or a full redesign in a version, preview it, and put it live when it is ready. Every change in WEMASY is saved on the version you have selected in the header, so you always know where your edits go.
Find the version switcher
The version switcher sits in the header of the dashboard, right of the project switcher. It shows Main (on some projects Live) or the name of the version you are working in. Click it to see Versions of this site.
Every project has the switcher, also a new project that has only its main version so far.
Create a version
- Click the version switcher in the header.
- Click + New version.
- Enter a name, for example Summer sale.
- Click Create.
The new version starts as a copy of the version you were on. A bar on every screen now says You are working in the version with its name, and that visitors do not see these changes yet.
Work in a version
- Edit pages, menus, forms, the webshop or your styles as usual. Every change is saved in the selected version.
- Click Preview in the switcher to open the version in a new tab.
- Click See what changes to compare the version with the live site.
- Click Back to Live in the bar to stop working in the version. Your version stays saved.
Versions made by the WEMASY AI chat or by a connected AI tool show in the list as AI chat or AI connection (MCP). You review and put them live the same way.
Put a version live
- Select the version in the switcher.
- Click Put live….
- Pick the changes that go live, or click Select all. What you leave out stays in the version.
- Click Put followed by the number of changes, for example Put 3 live.
- When WEMASY asks, click Publish now so visitors see the changes.
WEMASY checks the changes first. If the check finds problems, nothing goes live and the problems are listed. If the live site changed the same item since you started the version, choose Keep live or Use this version. When live has moved on, click Update with live to bring those changes into your version first.
Rename or discard a version
Open the switcher and click History, or All versions, to go to the Versions page. Select the version and click Rename or Discard. Discarding throws the version away. The live site stays as it is.
To make a version the one visitors see, or to go back to an earlier moment, see Make a version live and roll back.
Tip: name each version after its goal, such as New homepage or Black Friday. The list then tells you at a glance what each version is for.

Frequently asked questions
Do visitors see changes I make in a version?
No. Visitors only see a version after you put it live and publish your website.
What does Live changed since mean?
Someone changed the live site after your version started. Click Update with live in the Put live dialog to bring those changes into your version before it goes live.
Is a site version the same as a build on the Publish page?
No. A version is a copy you edit. A build is a published copy of your website, listed on the Versions tab of the Publish page.
