Selling a course or offering it for free

Every course in WEMASY has an access setting. A free course is open to anyone with a customer account on your website. A paid course is sold through a product in your webshop: buying the product enrolls the customer automatically.

Offer a course for free

1. Open your course and select the Details tab.
2. Set Access to Free.
3. Click Save.

Visitors click Start course on the course page. If they are not logged in, they are asked to log in or create an account first.

Sell a course

A paid course is linked to a product that holds the price. Create that product first.

1. Create a digital product in your webshop with the course name and the price. See Digital products and downloads.
2. Open Courses and select your course.
3. Open the Details tab.
4. Set Access to Paid.
5. Choose the product under Product that sells this course.
6. Click Save.

You cannot publish a paid course until a product is linked. The course page then shows the price and a Buy course button that adds the product to the cart.

What happens when someone buys

• The buyer checks out through your webshop, with the payment methods you set up there. See Webshop settings and payments.
• To order a course product, the buyer must be logged in to a customer account with a verified email address. This way the access always lands in the right account.
• When the payment is complete, WEMASY enrolls the buyer. The student list shows Purchase as the source.
• When you refund the order, WEMASY revokes the access that order gave.

Give access by hand

You can also enroll a person yourself, for example after a payment outside your shop. Open the Students tab, enter the email of their customer account under Enroll a student and click Enroll. See Managing students and progress.

Tip: Mark one lesson as Free preview. Visitors can open it from the course page before they buy, which helps them decide.
