Building your course curriculum

Learn how to add modules and lessons to a WEMASY course, choose lesson types, change the order and release modules over time.

The curriculum is the outline of your course: modules that group your lessons, in the order your students follow them. You build it on the Curriculum tab of a course. If you do not have a course yet, see Creating a course.

Add a module

  1. Open your course and select the Curriculum tab.
  2. Enter a Module title, for example Week 1: the basics.
  3. Optionally enter a number in Opens after (days).
  4. Click Add module.

Add a lesson

  1. Go to the module where the lesson belongs.
  2. Enter a Lesson title.
  3. Choose a Type.
  4. Click Add lesson.
  5. Click Edit next to the new lesson to write its content.

Lesson types

  • Text: written lesson content.
  • Video: a Video link to YouTube, Vimeo or a video file, with optional text.
  • Download: files your students can download, added as attachments.
  • Embed: content from another service shown inside the lesson.
  • Quiz: questions your students answer. See Adding quizzes to a course.

Edit a lesson

The Edit lesson screen has these fields:

  • Title, Type and Length in minutes.
  • Published: only published lessons are visible to students.
  • Free preview: anyone can read this lesson of a published course, also without enrolling.
  • Video link: for video lessons.
  • Lesson content: the text of the lesson.
  • Attachments: click Add attachment and enter a Name and a Link.

Click Save lesson, then Back to the curriculum.

Change the order

Drag a module or a lesson by its handle to move it. WEMASY saves the new order right away. On the curriculum you can also Publish or Unpublish a lesson, mark it as Free preview, or Delete it.

Release modules over time

Use Opens after (days) on a module to release it a number of days after a student enrolls. Leave it empty to open the module right away. A module with a delay shows a badge such as Opens after 7 days. Students see the date the module opens in their course outline.

When the Email students when a module opens setting on the Details tab is on, each student gets one email per module when it opens.

Tip: Mark one early lesson as Free preview. Visitors can read it on the course page before they enroll or buy, so they know what to expect. See Showing courses on your website.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not unpublish or delete a lesson?

A published course needs at least one published lesson. Unpublish the course first, or publish another lesson, then change this one.

Can I upload videos into a lesson?

A video lesson uses a link. Paste a link to your video on YouTube, Vimeo or a video file in the Video link field.
