Click heatmaps

Learn how to open a click heatmap in WEMASY Analytics to see where visitors click on a page and which areas they ignore.

A click heatmap shows where visitors click on one page of your website. Areas with many clicks light up, areas without clicks stay dark. Use it to check whether visitors find your main button, whether they click on things that are not links, and which parts of a page they skip.

Open a heatmap

  1. Open Analytics & Insights.
  2. Click Heatmap in the menu. On a small screen, find it in the three dots menu.
  3. Pick a period in the date field.
  4. Pick a page from Pages with clicks in this period, or type a path in Page URL or path, for example /pricing.
  5. Click Load heatmap.

You can also open a heatmap from other pages:

  • On Visits, choose Click Heatmap on a page row.
  • On Events, when the list shows the events of one page, click View heatmap.
  • On the Overview, click View heatmap next to the latest recording.

Read the heatmap

  • The page is shown as visitors saw it, taken from a session recording, with the clicks on top.
  • The total number of clicks for the page and period is shown above the heatmap.
  • The Intensity scale shows which colors mean few or many clicks.
  • Hottest zones lists the parts of the page with the most clicks, for example "Top center" or "Bottom left".
  • Hover over an area to see how many clicks it received.

Click Open page in new tab to compare the heatmap with the live page.

What to look for

  • Your main button gets few clicks. Make it stand out more or move it higher on the page.
  • Many clicks on an image or text that is not a link. Visitors expect it to do something. Consider adding a link.
  • No clicks at the bottom of a long page. Visitors may not scroll that far. Move important content up.

To understand why a pattern appears, watch a few recordings of the same page. See Session recordings.

When the heatmap is empty

If you see No click data for this page in the selected date range., try the following:

  • Pick a longer period.
  • Check the path. Use the path as it appears on the Visits page.
  • Remember that clicks are only collected for visitors who allow analytics when your website asks for cookie consent. See Analytics privacy and visitor consent.

Tip: open the heatmap of your homepage and your most visited page once a month. These pages have the most clicks, so changes show up first. Find your most visited pages in Sessions and visits tabs.

Frequently asked questions

Does the heatmap show phone and computer clicks together?

Yes, the heatmap shows all clicks on the page in the period. Pages often look different on a phone, so compare with recordings from phone visitors when something looks odd.

Do I need to set up anything for heatmaps?

No. Heatmaps use the clicks that WEMASY already collects on your published website.
