The HTML check reads the HTML of your pages and lists what search engines and visitors miss. It runs 31 on-page checks per page, such as the title, meta description, headings, image alt text, mobile viewport, HTTPS and server response time. It also finds problems across your whole site, such as pages that share the same title. The HTML check is fast and works for every project with the SEO tool.
Run the HTML check
- Open SEO from the product switcher.
- In the Broken links card on the overview, click HTML check.
- Check the start path under URL to audit.
- Enter the number of pages under Max pages.
- Click Start audit.
You can also start it with Start a new audit and select HTML check under Scan type. When the scan is completed, click View report. For the other scan types, see Run an SEO audit.
Read the summary
The report opens with On-page HTML check. A short verdict tells you how many critical problems and warnings were found. Below it you see Pages checked, Critical, Warnings and Site-wide issues.
Three charts help you decide where to start:
- Issues by impact: failed checks across all pages, split into critical, warning and notice.
- Most common problems: the share of pages that fail each check.
- Page scores: how many pages fall in each score band.
Fix site-wide issues
The section Across your site lists problems with the site as a whole. Examples are pages that share the same title, meta description or H1, pages without a title, pages hidden from Google with noindex, pages 4 or more clicks from the homepage and pages in the sitemap that nothing links to. It also checks your robots.txt and llms.txt files, for example whether robots.txt blocks search engines or AI search assistants. Each issue shows the pages it affects and how to fix it.
Fix problems page by page
Under Per-page results, click a page to open its checks. Every check shows Pass or Fail. A failed check shows How to fix with a short instruction. For the title and description you see the Current title and Current meta description, so you know what search engines read now.
- Open the failing page in the website builder.
- Change the title, description or content as the fix describes.
- Publish your website.
- Run the HTML check again to confirm the fix.
If the check stopped at the page limit of your plan, see SEO tool limits and Pro. Titles and meta descriptions of WEMASY pages are set in the page settings. See Page settings and SEO.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the HTML check and a full site audit?
The HTML check reads the HTML of many pages quickly. A full site audit opens each page in a real browser, adds speed scores and screenshots and takes longer. Use the HTML check for a fast overview and a full site audit for a deeper look.
Why did the check stop before all my pages were checked?
The HTML check stops at the page limit of your plan. The report then says your site has more pages than this check. Pro checks more pages per scan, see SEO tool limits and Pro.
Do I have to fix every warning?
No. Start with the critical problems, because they keep pages out of search results or hurt visitors most. Some notices, such as blocking AI training crawlers in robots.txt, are a choice and not an error.
