Run an SEO audit

Learn how to start an SEO audit of one page or your whole website in WEMASY, choose a scan type and follow the progress until the report is ready.

An SEO audit checks one page or your whole website for problems that cost you visitors from search engines. WEMASY opens your pages in a real browser, runs the checks, measures speed with Google PageSpeed Insights and stores a report you can return to later.

Choose a scan type

When you start an audit, you pick one of four scan types:

  • Single page: a deep check of one page in a real browser, with speed scores and a screenshot.
  • Full site: the same deep check on many pages. WEMASY starts at the address you enter and follows the links on your site.
  • 404 checker: checks every link, image and script and shows what is broken and where. See Find broken links with the 404 checker.
  • HTML check: 31 on-page checks per page plus duplicate titles across the site. See Check your pages with the HTML check.

Start an audit of your website

  1. Open SEO from the product switcher.
  2. Click Start a new audit.
  3. Select Your website.
  4. Under URL to audit, enter the path of the page, for example /about. Leave / to start at the homepage.
  5. Select a scan type under Scan type.
  6. For a site scan, enter the number of pages under Max pages.
  7. Click Start audit.

The address of your project is filled in for you, so you only type the path. Below Max pages you see how many pages your plan allows for that scan type.

Follow the progress

The audit appears under Recent audits on the overview and in Audits in the menu. The status moves from Pending to Scanning to Completed. The page updates by itself, so you do not need to refresh. A single page usually takes less than a minute. A full site scan takes longer, depending on the number of pages.

When the status is Completed, click View report. Read Read your SEO audit report to understand the results.

Cancel an audit

  1. Open the audit from Audits while it is still scanning.
  2. Click Cancel audit.
  3. Confirm in the dialog.

How WEMASY scans your site

The scanner only reads public pages, follows the rules in your robots.txt file and identifies itself as WEMASYBot. If your robots.txt blocks crawlers, those pages are skipped. Links that are not real pages, such as search results, filters, carts and page 6 and further of a list, do not use up your page budget.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my new audit open an older report?

If you start an audit of the same address within 5 minutes of the previous one, WEMASY shows that audit instead of starting a second scan. Wait a few minutes and start it again.

Is there a limit on how many audits I can run?

Yes. A project can start up to 100 audits per 24 hours. When you reach the limit, try again later.

I see a message that my project has no website domain yet. What do I do?

The SEO tool scans the public address of your project. Set a WEMASY subdomain or connect a custom domain first, then start the audit again.
