Create a language version of your website

Learn how to copy your website into another language with the WEMASY AI chat, translate it, and link the language versions to each other.

A language version is a full copy of your website in another language, as its own project. The WEMASY AI chat makes the copy for you: pages, menus, header and footer, forms, the shop, collections and popups. The new project then translates everything in its own chat. Your original website stays exactly as it is.

Before you start

  • You must be the owner of the project. Collaborators cannot add a language version.
  • The AI chat must be available on your account. Each AI answer uses AI credits. See AI credits.
  • A website can have one version per language. A theme project or an archived project cannot get one.

Make the copy

  1. Open the project of your website.
  2. Open the AI chat with the round button in the bottom right corner.
  3. Type what you want, for example: make an English version of this website.
  4. Read the AI's summary of what will happen.
  5. Confirm with yes.
  6. Click the link the AI gives you to open the new project.

The new project gets the name of your website with the language code added, for example My Bakery (EN). It has its own WEMASY address and starts on the free plan.

Translate the new version

  1. In the new project, the AI chat starts translating the whole website.
  2. Pages, the menu, forms and categories are translated right away.
  3. Large sets, such as many products or blog posts, are done in batches. Say continue to do the next batch.
  4. Check the translated pages with View website.

The AI translates texts such as titles, descriptions and SEO fields. It never changes prices, stock, images or variants. Page URLs stay as they were. The AI offers to rename them, for example /about-us to /over-ons, and adds a redirect from the old URL when you agree.

Publish and link the versions

  1. Publish the new version. See Publishing your website.
  2. Ask the AI chat to add a menu link to the other version.
  3. Do the same in the other project, so visitors can switch both ways.

Want the new version on its own domain, such as yourbusiness.de? That project needs its own paid plan. See Custom domain publishing.

Keep the versions in step

Each version is a separate project. When you change something on one site and want it on the other, ask the AI chat to hand the change over. It gives you a link to the other version, where that project's chat makes the change in its own language. You can also ask a question about another version, such as whether the prices match, from the chat of either project.

Tip: make language versions after your main website is finished. Changes made before the copy do not have to be repeated in every language.

Frequently asked questions

Does the copy include my orders?

No. The copy holds the website itself: pages, menus, forms, the shop, collections and popups. Orders and customers stay with the original project.

What does a language version cost?

The new project starts on the free plan. A custom domain or paid features on that version need a paid plan for that project. The AI translation uses AI credits.
