The site language setting

Learn what the language of your project changes on your website, in your emails and in your shop, and how to set it in the project settings.

Every WEMASY project has one site language. It decides the language of the texts WEMASY writes for your website, such as shop labels and the default emails after a form or an order. It does not translate the pages, menus and forms you wrote yourself. This article explains what the setting changes and how to set it.

What the site language changes

  • The labels of your webshop, such as the cart and checkout texts.
  • The default emails after a form is sent or an order is placed, including the footer of those emails.
  • The message visitors see after they send a form.
  • The default texts of new pages you create.

It does not change your own content. Your pages, menu items, product descriptions and form fields stay in the language you wrote them in.

Set the site language

  1. Click Settings in the top right menu of the dashboard.
  2. Open the General tab.
  3. Choose your language under Language.
  4. Save.
  5. Publish your website so the new texts appear on your live site.

If you changed shop label texts yourself, changing the language clears those custom texts. Your shop then shows the standard texts of the new language. Check your shop labels after the change.

When half your site is in another language

Do your emails or shop show English words on a Dutch website? Check the site language first. When it does not match the language of your pages, that is usually the cause. Set the right language and publish again.

Site language and language versions

A website in a second language is its own project, with its own site language. When the WEMASY AI makes a language version, it sets the language of the new project for you. See Create a language version of your website and Getting started with Multilingual.

Not the same as your dashboard language

The language of the dashboard itself is a setting of your account, not of your project. It changes the menus and buttons you see, not your website. See Language and time zone.

Tip: set the site language before you add a webshop or forms. The default texts are then right from the start.

Frequently asked questions

Will changing the language translate my pages?

No. It only changes the texts WEMASY writes. To translate your own pages, ask the AI chat to translate the website.

Can the AI chat change the site language for me?

No. You set it yourself under Settings, General, Language. The AI chat can translate your pages, menu and forms.
