Creating an A/B test

Creating an A/B test in WEMASY takes four short steps: the page, the change, the goal and the start. A preview next to the steps shows what visitors will see in the original and in version B. You can start the test straight away or save it as a draft.

Start a new test

1. Open A/B testing from the product switcher.
2. Click New A/B test.
3. Pick a quick start under Your first test: start with one of these, or click Start from scratch.

The quick starts are Test your headline (slogan), Test a button text and Test a different page (split URL). They fill in the steps for you.

Step 1: the page

1. Choose Homepage, Contact or Every blog post, or type a path or full link in Page (path or full link).
2. Click Next.

For a website that is not built with WEMASY, paste a link to the page. The WEMASY code must be on that website.

Step 2: the change

The easiest way is the visual editor: click Edit on your website. Your page opens in a new tab with an editor beside it. Click a heading, button or picture, change it and save. That becomes version B.

Or describe the change in the step itself:

• The main headline: the biggest title on the page.
• The main button: the text of the first button on the page.
• Something else: any element, by its CSS selector. Click Pick on my page to choose it on your page instead of typing.
• Leave something out: hide an element.
• Send to another page: version B is another page, such as /landing-b. Visitors keep their campaign tags.

Enter the new text or page for version B and click Next.

Step 3: the goal

Choose what counts as a success:

• A click: on a button or link.
• A page visit: for example the thank-you page after an order.
• A form sent: any form on your website.
• An order: an order placed in your webshop.

Step 4: name, split and start

1. Check the Name.
2. Choose under Who sees what how many visitors see version B.
3. Click Start the test, or Save as draft to start it later.

Each visitor keeps the same version for the whole test.

Change a test

Open the test from the overview. Under Setup you can change the page, the goal and the versions, add up to 30 changes per version with Add a change, and click See it on my page to preview a version. The shares of all versions must add up to 100%. While a test runs, only its name can change. Stop it to change the rest, so the results stay fair.

Under Texts in, add texts per language with Add a language for visitors who read another language.
