What is a Backlink?

Home / Glossary / B / What is a Backlink?

A backlink is a link that belongs to another website. It is created when another website includes a link that directs people to your website. Backlinks are important for SEO because search engines consider them as a sign of credibility and authority. A page will rank higher in the search engine results page when it has a larger number of good-quality backlinks.

Backlinks can be classified into two types:

Do-follow backlinks: These pass on link equity (or "link juice") and positively impact search rankings.

No-follow backlinks: These do not pass on link equity and don’t directly influence search rankings but can still drive traffic to your site. Quality backlinks from trusted and relevant sources can improve a site's visibility, traffic, and overall SEO performance.

One system, endless support.
